Foxpaw's eyes sleepily opened to a strange place. A strange mist swirled around it, and it was impossible to see what ground lay underneath. A few large stones protruded, and hostile looking cats glared at him from atop them. A cat that looked like a shadow slithered into view.
"Welcome to our home" it mewed, red eyes blazing. It moved closer, clearly the leader of whatever group of cats lived here. "Here we, the Cursed, train for victory...to seek our rightful revenge for our tragedies" the shadow-cat yowled proudly. Returning cheers came from the gathered cats on the rocks.
"Re...revenge? F-for what?" Foxpaw stuttered, dread creeping over him.
"For everything StarClan did to make us outcasts, breaking us apart from our Clanmates. 'It's your destiny to be special' they'd always tell us. Lies. All of it" the shadow spat. Shock coursed through Foxpaw.
Maybe it is unfair... he thought.
"All of us here...have abilities or powers...ones that we never asked to have" the shadow whispered angrily. "But there's one in particular we'd like you to meet. His name is Seven" the shadow mewed in a serious voice. The other cats lept from their rocks and seemed to meld into the mist. Slowly, the mist thinned to reveal a grey cat with blank eyes sitting almost limply.
"I sense a new cat. One from RoseClan I presume? But...he has a strange essence...fox" the cat rasped, sitting completely still.
"Seven is blind, and mostly deaf, but he has the extraordinary ability to lay a curse on a living being. This curse will kill the target at sunset on the seventh day. Not only that, but one who cares greatly for this being is the only one to know of this curse and must figure out a way to save the target on their own, as they will be unable to tell anyone else" the shadow whispered quietly to Foxpaw. Foxpaw's ear twitched and a shudder went up his spine.
"...and you may call me...Maboroshi" it finished, eyes flashing. The mist began to envelop Seven and Maboroshi before it swept over Foxpaw.
